Same Day Dental Bridge![]() What is a bridge?A bridge is a dental restoration that can replace up to three consecutive missing teeth in any given area of the mouth, filling in the space left behind. There are a few different types of bridges, but the most commonly used type is a fixed bridge. This restoration, usually made out of ceramic, is a single unit consisting of the Pontic teeth, or the replacement teeth, and two crowns. The crowns are on either side of the Pontic teeth, and their job is to anchor the restoration on to the adjacent healthy teeth. Why get a bridge?Fixed bridges offer several advantages.
Traditional Bridge PlacementIt used to be that placing a bridge took two visits. During your first visit, the adjacent healthy teeth that will be used to anchor the bridge, the abutment teeth, in place are prepared. Much like preparing teeth for crowns, a local anesthetic is administered, and enamel is removed from each tooth. In doing so, space is created for the crowns of the restoration, allowing it to fit perfectly into place in your mouth. After the teeth are prepared, an impression is taken and sent to a lab. Since it could take up to two weeks or more, a temporary bridge is placed. Once the bridge is ready, the second visit occurs, and the bridge is fitted and cemented into place. Same Day BridgesYou have a busy life. Needing to attend two separate visits for the placement of a bridge takes up a significant amount of your valuable time, interrupting your busy schedule. At Bisson Dentistry, we can provide you with your bridge in a single visit, eliminating the need for a second visit, as well as a temporary restoration. After the abutment teeth have been prepared, we then take a digital impression of your mouth. The image from the impression is displayed on a computer monitor. With the assistance of special software, we can design a custom fit restoration based on the exact parameters of your mouth. As soon as we are finished designing your restoration, the information is sent to our in-office milling machine. There, it is created from a single piece of ceramic. When it is ready, we check the bridge for fit and cement it into place. You leave the office with a fully functional bridge. If you are missing a tooth or two, a bridge can be an excellent option for replacing those teeth, restoring the functions of your mouth, its health, and the appearance of your smile. Same day bridges eliminate the wait typically associated with the placement of a bridge, allowing you to leave with a fully functioning restoration in a single visit.
