Why Should I Get Partial Dentures?

When you lose one or more teeth, this makes the bite pressure in your mouth shift. To compensate for this gap, other teeth may move in, leading to the soft tissues and bone near your lost teeth shrinking. If left unchecked, this can change your facial appearance and cause problems with other teeth. A partial denture’s purpose is to keep the mouth’s underlying structures (gums, jawbone, facial structure, etc) engaged and active. It will also give you confidence in a beautiful new smile!

Additionally, partial dentures are less invasive, typically require no tooth extraction unlike Complete dentures, and are less expensive. Despite needing some regular maintenance (simple daily cleaning), they’re also easy to get used to. If any corrections or adjustments are required to help them better fit your mouth, our team can take care of your needs quickly & cost-effectively. There are even implant options to fix your new dentures into place permanently.

What Are Partial Dentures Made From?

Partial dentures are made from a combination of metal and acrylic, which makes them strong, so they can handle all your day-to-day chewing and speaking needs while still appearing as natural as real teeth. Some people opt for sets made entirely of acrylic, as these may be easier (depending on the individual), but this makes them less durable and structurally sound. Rest assured, however, we will take the time to discuss and plan what type is best for you.

How Do Partial Dentures Work?

•  Partial- A removable partial denture or bridge typically consists of artificial teeth attached to a pink or gum-colored plastic base, which can be connected with a metal framework holding your dentures in position within the mouth. A fixed bridge replaces one or multiple teeth with crowns applied on them, on either side of the space, and attaching replacement teeth to them. Afterward, the bridge is cemented into position. This partial denture not only replaces lost teeth but also prevents other ones from moving out of place.
•  Precision partial- This type is removable and has internal attachments instead of clasps, which attach to adjacent crowns. Some prefer these dentures for their more natural look.

How Will My New Partial Dentures Feel?

Partial dentures are made to help you perform all your daily tasks from chatting to eating. It may take time to adapt to how it feels chewing, but you will eventually be able to enjoy all the foods you loved before. It is important, to begin with soft foods during the adjustment period, avoiding hard or sticky foods until later, and you’ll want to be careful (Chew slowly and get used to it on both sides of the mouth). It is not recommended to sleep with your new dentures, as they’re made to be cleaned outside the mouth and your gums will benefit from having time to recover. Some people also clench their teeth in their sleep, and the pressure can harm your dentures.
