Same Day Dental Crown![]() What is a crown?A crown is a cap that is designed to cover the entire visible surface area of a damaged or otherwise compromised tooth. It has several functions, including providing strength to a damaged tooth, preventing further harm, and protecting against bacterial invasion. Crowns are made from a variety of materials, including metal, porcelain fused to metal, and ceramic. Each material has its unique advantages, as well as its drawbacks. Metal is the strongest material available. Ceramic is not quite as strong, but it is still fairly strong. It also offers unmatched aesthetic benefits. The Traditional Crown ProcedureTypically, crowns take two visits to place. After the tooth is prepared, a procedure done under a local anesthetic to remove a portion of the enamel from the affected tooth. In removing this enamel, we help to create the room necessary for your crown to fit naturally in with the rest of your teeth. Once the tooth is prepared, an impression is taken, and sent off to a lab. Since it usually takes up to two weeks for the final crown to be made, a temporary crown is placed in the meantime. The temporary crown helps to protect the tooth against bacteria and other issues, but it is not foolproof. Once the finalized crown is ready, the tooth is fit and cemented into place. Getting Your New Crowns in One VisitA Bisson Dentistry, we help you to avoid the two-week wait, and the need for a second visit, with same day crowns. After the tooth is prepared, we take a digital impression of your mouth. The impression displays on a computer monitor, where we are able to use specialized software to design a crown that fits perfectly into your mouth based on its exact parameters. Once we are satisfied with the design, the information is sent to an in-house milling machine, where the crown is fabricated. It is created from a single piece of ceramic. This material provides great strength, able to stand up to daily use, as well as superior aesthetics. Ceramic perfectly imitates the color and light reflection properties of natural enamel. After we place your crown, no one will be able to tell the difference between the restoration and the rest of your teeth. While crowns are effective, having to wait two weeks or more for your final restoration can increase your risk for complications. A second appointment also takes up additional valuable time. With same day crowns, that wait is eliminated, restoring your teeth, and your smile, in one trip.
